Our Story

I know what it’s like to feel overwhelmed, frustrated, or even scared when your dog’s behaviour feels like “too much.”
I’ve been there myself — holding onto Bella, my first dog, the little misfit no one else wanted.

Bella was a 32 lbs Boston Terrier mixed with a French Bulldog, she came to me with a history full of fear, aggression, and every type of reactivity. She was so misunderstood that the rescue considered euthanizing her before I took her home. I was her last chance at life. I was only 18, had no friends, no hobbies, and all I knew was that I absolutely loved animals. We both needed to see the light, and we found it in each other.

But Bella wasn’t a bad dog. She was a misread one.

Working with her was hard. Some days were draining. Some days I cried. But she taught me more about trust, patience, communication, and unconditional love than any book or certification ever could. She helped show foster puppies that the world wasn't always bad; she helped calm old souls who thought the human touch was always going to hurt. Bella wasn't a bad dog. She was misunderstood.

Bella has since passed, but her spirit is the heartbeat of this business.

She lives on in every dog we help…
in every owner we reassure…

in every misfit who walks through this journey feeling seen instead of judged.

This is why Bella & The Misfits exists — not to create “perfect” dogs, but to give misunderstood ones the space, training, and support they always deserved.

Who is Bella?
